Witch

Witch

She lived alone in the forest. Her house was small and she kept it clean. There were flowers in her small windows and curtains to veil the inside of the house.

Some said they had seen a huge wolf entering the house on cold days and sleeping on her doorstep in the Spring. They also said they had noticed birds sang more cheerfully in the trees surrounding her house.

Others said she cooked delicious meals and shared them with the animals in the woods and even talked to them in a language they could not understand.

It was also said she waited for a long-gone lover, every night she was at the crossroads, under the full moon. Many things were said about her and yet none could be proved certain. It was also rumoured she could fly and this worried everyone in the village so much they put it out of their minds.

Because you see, they liked her, in spite of her strange ways. Though she looked her years, some swore they had seen a beautiful young woman, completely naked, cleaning the small rooms of the house. When asked how this could have been since there were curtains, they answered the woman´s body was radiant and it was visible through the curtains…

When she realised this, she did not hide her radiance, she only darkened her curtains, there was no need to scare the villagers. There was no need to expose herself to the fear of others, she had seen plenty of cruelty fueled and enacted by fear in other times, in other centuries.

And holding her pentacle she sat in an opening of the woods, surrounded by the animals who lived there. She looked at the moon and smiled. Her beauty shone in the knowledge she was, once again, one with the Goddess.
